Washington Assault Weapon Classification Guide

RCW 9.41.010(2)(a)(iii): The "Parts" Provision

One of the most significant unresolved questions under HB 1240 is whether individual firearm components, particularly AR-15 lower receivers, constitute "assault weapons" under the parts provision. No AG opinion, prosecution, or enforcement guidance has addressed this question since the law took effect in April 2023.
